Services

JPM Art Services offers USPAP-compliant appraisals of fine art.

I specialize in appraising pre and post-war modern and contemporary art, and works from the Hudson River School for insurance, estate, and donation valuation. Uniform Practice of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) is the highest recognized standard for professional appraisers as set forth by Congress.

Insurance

To insure valuable works of art I will prepare an appraisal based on retail replacement value for you to provide to your insurance agent. In the event that your work is damaged, stolen, or lost, this valuation, and the terms of your policy, will permit you to purchase another work of the same or equivalent nature.

Estate

After the loss of a loved one, taxpayers who have inherited works of art will need an estate appraisal for estate settlement purposes, and to guide the equitable distribution of the estate. In other cases, an estate appraisal may be needed when marital assets are being separated. Consult your estate attorney or tax advisor for legal guidance on your particular filing needs.

Donations

When you donate a work of art to a museum or other charitable institution you will need a donation appraisal and IRS Form 8283 to be completed by a qualified appraiser. Once you have completed these requirements, you may deduct the donation value from your income tax return. Consult your tax advisor for guidance on your particular filing needs.

Valuation Services

People frequently ask appraisers if what they have is worth anything. I can help guide you with that question, and the next steps.

Collections Care & Transport

Works of art need care and preservation. All too often, art—especially works on paper— are framed in acidic mats, or displayed in direct sunlight without ultraviolet protection. I can guide you in ensuring that your art is cared for generations and not “kissed by the sun.” If you need to pack and ship your art I can help with that too. I also provide advice on cleaning and conservation.
